Reset 02:55
Remade Always set in motion Forward progress, future gain Replace Augment hearts like automata Let no human error remain Reset this collective disorder On the eve of an alibi Behold, it’s a new world order Where machine is a state of mind Receive The next evolution Merging mindsets we’ve amassed Reverse Engineer a new race Made in our image at last The chief end of man is his own end Divided Relapse in attention disorder With the promise of compromise Play God with a dangerous order That will alter the fabric of life An attempt to self-actualize Have we all up and lost our minds?
2.
Phantom Limb 03:18
The ever-changing world is at our fingertips Data moves faster than the speed of our ethics A brighter screen to cause the world around to dim Curate experience to satisfy the phantom limb Workplace (now in your pocket) Clickbait (read all about it) Shopping (an idle habit) Scrolling (on autopilot) Profiles (show your best side now) Wishlist (you name, we got it) Tonight we’re lost in the virtual And miss the beauty as it passes by Reconnect at your own risk The fatal crime of a passive life This pyramid’s so high, it’s hard to see the top Can’t stop to think or maybe cannot think to stop Thanks for your patience as an update starts within It won’t be long before you’re reaching for it again
3.
You keep trying to love something that cannot love you back Its one intent is to sever your soul Give in now before there is time to react And find it will only take more and more (and more) The darkest places are right inside your mind Begging at the screen for what lies behind You keep reaching for something but the pain never stops Shame & denial have become your closest friends Guiding you along the path while your eyes avert To run away or slip into slow descent (descent)
4.
Profiles 02:55
Color and control This filter of me Presets for the life I want you to see Keeping friendships up to date/connected At the safe arm’s length of a screen We all project to form this house of mirrors Residing somewhere in-between Delete my account Start over again This time I will capture My aura, my domain Show my good side My profile
5.
We’ve all found an isolated home to hide And yet we search for strangers in which to confide Vulnerable, left to our own devices that we can’t contain Zoning out, our tiny vices hardly numb us day to day It’s a familiar alone For we all feel it A burden too profound For our hearts to take It’s a familiar alone But far from hopeless Our sufferings can compose Such a glorious weight Celebrity posts have become our weary guide As we seek truth through whatever means we deem right Forgive us, Lord, for we have much to learn and more to learn away May we gather around like beggars desperate for our daily bread today Straining eyes for heaven’s light to cut through the haze The revelation you have waited for for all your days To reach out for the divine and be surprised by grace The God of the universe has been calling out to you by name It’s a familiar alone For we’ve all felt it A burden too profound For our hearts to take But we are never alone Cry out for comfort The everlasting arms Of our God await

about

Is this an album? Is it an EP? AUTOMATA is a batch of 5 songs centered around a common theme of technology and it's societal implications.

AUTOMATA starts with Reset, a song about the dangers of hubris when it comes to our current & future approach to artificial intelligence. In between, there are songs about our addiction to phones & social media. Finally, it wraps up with Familiar Alone, a song about the shared feeling of profound loneliness this technological age has left us with and the reason we, as humans, are hardwired for real relationships/connections.

The irony is not lost on me that this project would not be possible without some of the same stunning advancements in technology that these songs critique. Still, as the opening quote goes, "technology is not inherently good or bad; it's how we use it." The overall tone may come across as cynical, but my intent is to simply be another voice pointing out the potential pitfalls of how fast we are all moving. May we enjoy these modern advancements & not let them replace us in any capacity.

One of the goals I had early on was to make this batch of songs as catchy & cohesive a listening experience as possible. I sincerely hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed creating. Thank you for checking it out!

released July 25, 2022

My wife, Chelsey, for always being patient, supportive, & encouraging to me, even when I am at my most creatively restless.

My boys, I am so proud to be your father.

My parents, for instilling a love of music in me & for enduring many years of cacophonous writing sessions in their basement.

My brothers, for always pushing me to be a better writer, though I admit, this project is far from my subtlest lyric writing.

about

Luke Chase Milford, Connecticut

Wrote a song when I was 10 years old. Wasn't very good. 20 years later, I'm still writing.

I'm also in the prog rock band Notion Blue. This is a different creative outlet for me. One where I try not to write prog rock.
